The View to become the perfect ‘day into night-time’ destination

It is going to be a busy festive period for us here at The View, as we juggle our festive events programme along with plans to advance a six-figure refurbishment.

The View will close early next year in order for the development to be carried out, which will see the existing dance floor and kitchen area transformed into four spaces that can operate semi-independently.

This will include recessing the front windows to form a covered balcony; relocation of both bars and stage area; formation of a dedicated function room with a standing capacity of 230; as well as the reinstatement of a kitchen facility.

Directors; Daniel MacIntyre, Drew Walker, and Andrew Buchanan took over The View 18-months ago and now we want to utilise all of the space and open the venue seven days a week.

Speaking about the development, Daniel MacIntyre said: 'We’ll continue to run our popular ceilidh and club nights, but we are actively collaborating with others to create new remarkable products and services, that will ensure our venue becomes a destination of choice for locals, our business community, visitors, events and wedding organisers.

'Our work with community groups and charities will also continue, as we’re passionate about adding to our running total of £7,500 raised for local and national causes.'

The plans have been supported by the town's tourism and business industries.

Andrew Spence, Chief Executive of BID4Oban, said: 'The property is an important asset to the town and the proposed plans will enhance and improve the ambience for all users.'

Linda Battison, Director of Oban and Lorn Tourism Alliance, added: 'The View is a popular and well run visitor attraction which encourages visitors to stay longer and spend more. I am supportive of any business that wishes to invest and expand.'

On top of our own plans, we also want to help enhance Oban's reputation as a holiday destination outwith the summer months.

'Oban is arguably one of Scotland’s most attractive coastal towns,' Daniel added. '[It] has many opportunities to grow its market share and capture more leisure and business visitors all year round.

'We cannot change this in isolation, so our own plans need to dovetail with working with Oban’s Business Improvement District, Oban a University Town initiative, Oban and Lorn Tourism Alliance plus many local, regional and national businesses that are required to work together to become a 365-day a year visitor destination.'
