“soon Oban will also be the Cycling Capital of Scotland”
Whenever I write something like this blog it just gets clearer and clearer to me that where I live on the west coast of Scotland really is an eco-holiday destination.
Here in Oban we are very fortunate not only to live somewhere which provides adventure and inspiration from nature every where we look but also that there are so many eco-friendly options when it comes to travel, experience and food.
Oban is the Gateway to the Isles and with the west coast waters on our doorstep we have a rich diversity of sea life including sea eagles, otters, dolphins, whales and seals and lots of eco-tourism options including guided trips to see basking sharks, golden eagles and wildflowers.
We are also the Seafood Capital of Scotland with some of the best food you can eat including langoustines, crab, lobster and scallops, caught by local fishermen and served up in some of the best restaurants and cafes on the west coast.
Soon Oban will also be the Cycling Capital of Scotland with ScotRail providing dedicated cycle carriages on the West Highland Line and the Sustrans Route 78 passing the doorstep opening 234 miles of traffic free and quiet single-track roads to explore.
Oban is also a door to wilderness and adventure from sea kayaking to gravel biking, wild swimming to mountain climbing. You really can have your cake and eat it here – arrive by train with your bike, chill out in the natural environment, wonder at the wildlife and eat local delicious food.
